A Clerk of Works Engagement Agreement is an Agreement that sets out the terms and conditions under which a clerk of works will be engaged by the client.

A clerk of works is representative of the client on site working under the directions of the client. The main responsibility of the clerk of works is to ensure that the client gets value for his money by ensuring the quality of material and workmanship.

A Clerk of Works provides an independent assessment of the works undertaken, checking the quality of the build, structural and architectural works. They produce regular reports and a dialogue with the design team. If a project has a project manager, then the clerk of works will report to the Project Manager.
